DESIGNER FIRE
Technical specificationFlue requirements
Precast block flue system to BS 1289 with a minimum internal free area of 1250omm2.
-Brick or stone flue with minimum 225mm (9") x 225mm (9") crosssection or 125mm (5") minimum internal diameter.
Twin walled flue manufactured to 85715 with a minimum internal diameter of 125mm (5"). Lined brick or stone flue minimum internal diameter of 125mm (5")
Chimneys should be swept prior to installation and any combustible material removed from the fire opening. All flues must be properly installed having a minimum effective height of 3 metres. Pre-cast flues must be properly installed and completely free from mortar fangs or other restrictions to flow.
Installation:
The fire must be installed by a qualified CORGI installer in accordance with the installation instructions. Any existing chair brick may remain in situ providing the minimum spigot clearance is met. Clearance above appliance to a combustible shelf which is not more than i5omm (6") depth, must be at least 835mm (33") above hearth. For a deeper combustible shelf you will need to increase this clearance. Purpose provided ventilation is not normally required, however, the installer must take account of all appliances and the results of a spillage test. For Republic of Ireland ventilation should be fitted in accordance with 15813, ICP3,15327.
Fireplace requirements:
A noncombustible fireplace having a minimum opening of 375mmmmmm wide, 540mm high* (see note above). The traditional 16" x 22" opening is suitable. The required minimum depth of the fire opening may vary. This is due to the safety zone behind the fire having to be larger for flues that have been previously used for solid fuel fires. Minimum depth for a new flue or one used previously only with a gas fire, 200m. Optional 25mm and 5omm spacers are available to assist installation into shallower openings. A noncombustible hearth must extend a minimum of 30omm (12" in front of the live part of the fire bed and have a minimum width of 700mm (27.6"). The hearth's top surface should be 5omm above surrounding floor level or have a 5omm high fixed fender around its perimeter.
